Mid-summer is peak riding and peak traffic. Ride smart and make the most of it.
Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park (US-34) tops out above 12,000 feet, the highest continuous paved road in the country. It is summer-only and worth every switchback. Pack a layer, it is cold up top.
Afternoon thunderstorms and hail build fast in the high country, the air is thin, and the sun is intense. Ride early, carry a layer, and watch for gravel on the switchbacks and elk on the road.
